I knew this day was coming, the day when I let go
A bittersweet day, an inevitable day
The day when I realize that my heart doesn’t beat faster
That my soul doesn’t yearn and my eyes don’t sparkle
Whenever someone mentions you.

And when I say your name, it isn’t spoken softly
It will be just another name, you’ll be just another friend
Just like I was just another friend all along
Not even a chance given, eventually the heart stops trying
The soul stops feeling, the body stops aching
The love dies when it’s denied and the lust washes away with the tide
And I realize I no longer want to care.

I thought you were worth the effort and the price I had to pay
And I tried and tried until I could try no more
I’m tired of our game of push and pull
But we’re so exhausted we don’t even play it anymore
It’s time to let go and get on with the show.

So thank you for giving me this time in your life
That I kept hoping, no fault of yours
That I kept praying, but you’re not to blame
Thank you for teaching me even my heart can be silenced
To a point where it feels no more.
